Job Posting: Sexual Assault Outreach Coordinator

Position Term: Beginning August 2017, continuing until April 2018

Renumeration: $16/hr (Approximately 30 hours in September and 10-15 hours monthly during the school year)

Number of Positions: 1-2 (Graduate students prioritized)

Work Details: 

  • Variable time commitments throughout the academic term
  • Working with another coordinator as well as with the GSA executive and staff
  • Working with groups at Carleton and the broader Ottawa community

Job Description: Include, but are not limited to:

  • To assist in the education of the GSA’s membership and Carleton students at large about issues surrounding sexual assault through advocacy and outreach work
  • Help foster student participation in sexual assault awareness/anti-oppression campaigns through organizing and facilitating campaign meetings
  • To participate in the creation of safe spaces and provide resources to graduate students based off the vision and platform of the GSA executive
  • Represent the GSA and students by sitting on relevant Carleton University committees, including Our Turn and the Consent Culture Committee as directed by the executive
  • To help conduct outreach to students and to engage in public education concerning broader sexual violence issues, consent, sexual health, and equity campaigns through events (town halls, workshops, panels) and regular tabling
  • Assist in the organization of outreach events concerning sexual assault, consent and sexual health
  • Support the dissemination and referral process regarding sexual assault resources both on and off campus
  • Meet twice a month with the GSA executive to discuss upcoming events, work reports, and outreach
  • Help liaise with and foster relationships with other organizations with similar mandates including the Carleton Womyn’s Centre
  • Contribute content to the Grad Bulletin, GSA website and social media
  • Support the promotion of safe space and sexual health during GSA Welcome Weeks activities as requested by the Executive
  • Other tasks as directed
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Must be current student at Carleton University (preference given to graduate student)
  • Strong communication skills, meeting facilitation skills, good ability to work on a team, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Have an understanding and an interest in awareness work around sexual assault
  • Must have understanding of intersections surrounding sexual assault and how sexual violence impacts various marginalized communities
  • Training as a support worker, councilor, peer supporter etc. an asset but not required
  • It is an asset but not required to have experience working with the LGBTQ2 communities, and families
  • Must be willing to take active listening training and/or anti-oppression training.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision but is team oriented
  • Knowledge and understanding of equity issues and creating inclusive spaces
  • Proven ability to work within deadlines and in an expedient manner
