Carleton University’s tuition fees are among the highest in the country. However, on March 21st the Board of Governors is expected to vote to increase tuition fees once again.

For undergrads, tuition fees could go up by 3%. Grad students might see an increase of 5%. International tuition could increase by an unlimited amount.

We believe that university is already too expensive, causing students significant financial stress and putting them deeper in debt. Meanwhile, the university maintains healthy budget surpluses every year, and could easily afford to freeze tuition.

Join us in calling on the Board of Governors to vote NO to tuition increases. We refuse to let the university ignore students and will make sure they know we are paying attention.

Get involved in the following ways!

(1) Take a picture of yourself with a message about your student debt or the difficulties of affording tuition. Get creative! Show us how high student fees impact you! Then, post it to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag#CUFightTuition, and mention @Carleton_U so that they hear your voice!

(2) Join students and community partners in welcoming Board members as they arrive at their meeting on Monday, March 21st. We will meet by the Ghandi statue outside the River Building at 4pm.

(3) Following the welcome, we will be hosting a Viewing Party with food and drinks at 617 Southam Hall, to watch the livestream of the meeting. The Board meeting might be closed to the public, but we will gather to show the Board that students are watching. Come celebrate a better vision for education with us!

Lower Tuition Carleton is a campaign of the Carleton University Student Action Movement (CUSAM) and the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA). We invite all undergrads, grad students, faculty members and campus workers to join in our fight for affordable education for everyone.
