Swipe Right? Dating Apps and Violence

2015/11/10 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

You are invited to join a facilitated conversation about “Dating” Apps & Online Violence, co-presented by the Carleton University Graduate Students’ Association & the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women.

We use dating apps to connect with new people – sometimes to hook up, sometimes to make new friends, sometimes to find a long-term partner. However, these spaces are not as safe and accessible as we would like them to be.

So, how do we make apps and websites like Tinder, PoF, Grindr & Facebook better and safer for meeting new people?

In this “Give & Take” Workshop, we will be sharing what we have been learning about online dating apps as platforms that incite conflict, safety & security, and explore issues and experiences built into this culture, but mostly we want to hear from you!

This is a mixed gender/ all- genders space but priority will be given to women and other marginalized genders. Spaces are limited.

*** ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A $20 ROOSTERS GIFT CERTIFICATE ***

*** A PIZZA LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED ***

[ This workshop is part of a larger project working on issues of social media and sexual violence ]
