Position Summary
The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) at Carleton University is seeking a Chief Electoral Officer to oversee the upcoming annual elections.
The Chief Electoral Officer will be responsible for administering the full election process, including nominations, campaigning, voting procedures, and the announcement of results, while ensuring compliance with GSA bylaws and electoral policies.
This role provides a valuable opportunity for a graduate student interested in gaining experience in election administration, governance, and student leadership.
Key Responsibilities
• Administer the GSA General Elections
• Work collaboratively with the GSA Electoral Board
• Oversee the nomination, campaigning, and voting processes
• Ensure that all candidates and campaigns comply with GSA election rules and procedures
• Receive, review, and investigate complaints related to campaign conduct or potential electoral misconduct in accordance with established procedures
• Manage and review election appeals in accordance with established procedures
• Notify Council members of nominees
• Publicize the elections to councillors and graduate departments and encourage voter participation
• Report election results to Council at the first meeting following the elections
• Inform the appropriate bodies and authorities of the election results
Qualifications
• Must be a graduate student at Carleton University
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and maintain neutrality throughout the election process
• Interest in governance, elections, or student leadership is considered an asset
Work Schedule and Conditions
• Variable hours between mid-March and late April
• Some evening availability may be required
• Typical hours may range between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with flexibility as required
• This position is a short-term contract role and does not constitute ongoing employment with the GSA
Compensation
This position is compensated through a fixed honorarium of $2,000 for the full contract period.
Conflict of Interest
The Chief Electoral Officer must remain neutral and independent throughout the election process. Individuals intending to run as candidates in the GSA election, support a campaign, or hold a current executive position are not eligible for this role.

The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) at Carleton University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Executive Director to lead the organization in executing its mission, managing operations, and supporting the graduate student community.
This role offers a unique opportunity for a visionary and strategic leader with a strong background in nonprofit management, financial oversight, staff coordination, and policy development.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Facilitate the implementation of strategic directives of the Association, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
People & Team Leadership
Oversee GSA staff, including direct supervision of key positions, hiring, and performance management. Collaborate with the Executive Team in staffing decisions and serve as a primary advisor on personnel matters.
Labour Relations
Engage in collective bargaining as part of the Management Bargaining Committee.
Financial Stewardship
Work closely with the finance team to support day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting and the annual audit process.
Operational Oversight
Coordinate the activities of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, provide secretarial support, and maintain efficient organizational record-keeping.
Policy Development & Research
Conduct research, draft policies, and provide policy advice to support GSA initiatives and address graduate student needs.
External Relations
Act as a liaison to external partners and stakeholders, and manage media interactions as needed.
Collaborative & Event Support
Assist staff with administrative, financial, and operational tasks, and coordinate orientation and major GSA events, providing on-site support to the Executive Team.
Qualifications

Proven experience in nonprofit management; experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred

Knowledge of Ontario’s Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) is an asset

Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and audit processes

Working knowledge of HR practices, including supervision, training, and performance management

Excellent communication, policy research, and organizational skills
Work Requirements
On-site availability is required, with occasional evening and weekend work based on operational needs. This position operates in a hybrid environment at the GSA.

Position Summary
The Bar Staff will work at Mike’s Place Pub, operated by the GSA-Carleton Inc. This position plays a critical role in delivering excellent customer service to graduate student members and other communities at Carleton University in Ottawa.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold organizational policies and applicable legislation, including health and safety requirements
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
- Serve customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Prepare food
- Perform general maintenance duties, including dishwashing, cleaning, and washroom cleaning
- Maintain washrooms throughout the day and clean as needed
- Balance daily cash
- Conduct inventory counts
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- Must be a graduate-level student at Carleton University
- Enjoys working with people and providing customer service
- Easy-going, trustworthy, and reliable individual
- Bartending, cash-handling, or kitchen experience is an asset
- Smart Serve Certification is required
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, with breaks
